Nestled within the serene expanse of Queensway, Rookies is a modest yet profound establishment embarking on a compelling narrative that transcends its physical boundaries. With a fervent commitment to placing "Community at the Center," Rookies serves as a facilitator of spontaneous, collaborative, and intellectual ideas. Rookies’ ethos as a local-community specialty coffee store stands as a deliberate departure from the standardized and often homogenized nature of contemporary globalized café companies.

The slanted bar counter emerges as a distinctive feature that infuses Rookies with its air of informal spontaneity. Inspired by the convivial atmosphere of izakayas, where patrons gather for casual dining and socializing, the slanted bar counter disrupts the conventional spatial dynamic to serve simultaneously as a welcoming gesture towards the passers-by, and a visual cue to encourage dynamic interactions and serendipitous encounters among guests.

Central to the narrative of Rookies is the deliberate incorporation of brick as a symbolic element. Inspired by Lefebvre's concept of space production through symbolic appropriation, the brick here parallels the brick pavers that wrap around the estate’s walkways, serving as a tangible manifestation of Rookies' active engagement with its urban context. The calculated integration of brick elements from the surrounding urban environment not only imbues the café with a sense of rootedness but also visually underscores its active engagement with the broader urban fabric.
