What is our place in the urban fabric?

As Singapore strives for progress, concrete and steel spring from the earth overnight, seemingly dwarfing the citizen in the metropolis. imagiNation envisions a city conceptualised by its people, and situates the individual in a place they can call home. Red, towering skyscrapers miniaturised to the human scale, forms the datum from which illumination occurs. Blue, the aspirations of everyday Singaporeans, forms a sheen enveloping the rendition of the city. At the interstices of red and blue comes violet, a city built together with Singaporeans, for Singaporeans.

We invite viewers to engage with the installation from various perspectives, and explore the protean nature of dreams for the city, framed by the morphing violet arising from the marriage of red and blue. As viewers approach to engage more intimately with the installation, they weave in between the panels, and consequently are subsumed into the exhibition.

The viewer thus becomes a literal representation of the individual's place in the urban fabric. Just as violet only exists through red and blue, the city relies on both its infrastructure and its people - one cannot exist without the other.

imagiNation is a dream for Singapore, where every citizen can find their place.
